I was just a normal teenage girl, one that would go to school, club activities and football games, but something happened that changed my life forever.  My name is Karin Valley, I'm fifteen years old and I have long blonde hair and blue-gray eyes that turn green sometimes, I'm wearing my new black shirt that has silver flames on it, it says naughty in old English grey colored letters, my new black hooded sweater, a pair of my favorite dark blue jeans with orange stitching, my knee high black combat boots with a ton of buckles and long neon green laces, and a black backpack with silver flames and a single strap hung over my shoulder casually. I go to Caves High School we're home of the Bats, I thought it was a corny idea but simple none the less.  My closest friends are Momoichi, Blaze, Nancy, Cami, and Dante.  We've been together since we were in grade school and stayed friends all the way up to freshman year of High School. We live in a weird town; part of it is up with buildings like apartments and dinners then it goes out to forestry full of wild animals and the occasional weirdo. It's Friday and we were suppose to go to club activities for the last two hours of the day but we decided to ditch it and go home early after being counted present in class.  I knew if I went home early my dad would ask why I got out so early in the day.  So instead of going strait home I stopped by some of the shops to kill the last two hours of school. My black hooded sweater kept me warm on the cool day, the sky was not it's usual blue self; it was dark and gray, with low yelling thunder. I walked the sidewalk filled with many people of different size, shapes and colors; the sides of the streets were lined with cars like, SUV's, convertibles, PT cruisers, vans and station wagons. I didn't know where I was going but anywhere would be better than going home so early in the afternoon. I was passing by Nanato's Pet Shop and decided to kill my time in there. My hand touched the cool glass door as I pushed it to enter, as I walked into the pet shop, I started to hear the cries of various animals, the mewing of kittens and cats, the barks of dog and puppies, the chirping of birds and chicks and sometimes the occasional quacks of ducks.  I walked to the counter and saw Momoichi getting a bag of bird feed; I called to him, "Hey Momoichi! How's work going?" Momoichi is my best friend he has light brown hair, he is almost six feet tall making him about four inches taller than me, he has green eyes that could stare into space forever, and he is like a rabbit fast and strong, but he has a slender body that is very pale, he is in his uniform for work and simple black work shoes completed his ensemble. He loves animals so he chose to work in a pet store part time. He looked at me and placed the bag of feed over his left shoulder, he said I his kind voice, "Hey Karin. What are you doing here? I thought you would have went to the new Star Bucks down the street." "No it's too crowded and I can't go home for a few hours any way… Hey did any new sugar gliders come in yet?" I asked. "Yea I'm about to go check on the new one, once I feed the canaries. Want to help?" he asked kindly. I nodded yes.  We walked to the back of the store that had the walls lined with cages containing, birds of different species, cats of different colors, and dogs of different breeds. There was one tall cage in the corner that had about thirty little yellow birds in it.  Momoichi stuck his hand into the cage and took out three bowls, all slightly dirty, he had me fill the bowls with fresh feed and placed them back in the cage. A tiny bird, the smallest one out of the entire cage, landed on my arm as I was taking my hand out of the cage. It stayed there for a split second and flew to the rim of the bowl to eat some food.  He smiled and locked the cage then took my hand and led me to another cage just a few feet away. The cage was covered with a black cloth, he lifted up part of it and reached into the cage, he spoke to me as he did this. "Let me just find this little guy and– AH!!!!" He screamed loudly, causing me to scream as well, he stopped and smiled at me, he laughed as he said, "Ha, ha– Got you good." I looked at him with an expression that said that what he did was not funny. "Ha-ha very funny," I said in a sarcastic tone. Momoichi pulled out a small animal and held it in his hand. This creature was covered with light brown fur, it's head narrow had a small darker colored triangle, a small nose, it's tiny black eyes gazed up at me, open ears, a bushy tail, little claws and extra folds of skin came with this tiny creature called a sugar glider. I looked down at it and saw it was cute, the sugar glider jumped from Momoichi's hand, digging it's tiny claws into my black shirt and climbing up to sit on my shoulder. It sniffed my ear and tickled my neck as it sniffed around. "Does it have a name yet?" I asked in a giggling voice. Momoichi picked up the small animal carefully and placed it back into its cage. "Not yet… you can name it if you want," said Momoichi, as he locked the cage. I thought for a minute then said, "Charily…" "Um it's a girl," said Momoichi as he smiled at me waiting for a different name.  I looked at him and said, "So a girl can be named Charily." I looked at some of the empty cages in the store, then my glance went to some of the various animals in the store, most of the puppies, kittens, reptiles and birds had fallen silent and had yet to wake up from the other animals speaking their hidden languages to themselves or to the animals next to them. I looked around, not feeling Momoichi's eyes upon me.  Momoichi was looking at my body and me, it was known by everyone for a long time that he had a crush on me but I never knew about it. Momoichi stood up and placed a hand on my shoulder. I looked at him with curious eyes that questioned him why he did this sudden action.  He looked at me with those grass like eyes and said to me, "Karin why don't you go home, I got a lot to do here and I don't want to take up so much of your time…" I nodded silently and left the shop without speaking a word the only thing that gave him an indication of a goodbye was a simple hand wave as I stepped out of the shop and went down the street. I knew he had work so I wouldn't bother him but I still wanted to do is kill time, so I looked around to see where I should go next. I stood on the sidewalk looking at all the shops on the other side of the street. I saw Julian's Café, a restaurant, I saw an accessories store called Clare's and I saw an Ice Cream Shop called Sarah's Sweets. I would have to start at Clare's looking for a new backpack for sleepovers then go to Julian's for dinner and finish up with Sarah's for dessert. I looked both ways for any on coming cars, and as a blood red limo, with black tinted windows passed by slowly I started crossing the street. As I crossed half of the street my eyes wandered to the blood red limo as it pulled to the left side of the street. The back door opened and a boy stepped out with a black umbrella. The boy was young and really handsome, he was quite tall and well built, his face was beautifully round with long black bangs covering his right eye, he wore a simple suit, with a black collared shirt, black pants that were quite tight on him, and a black jacket, almost everything was black except for a red tie around his neck. As I stepped onto the safety of the sidewalk he looked at me with coal colored eyes and smiled as he opened the umbrella. I watched him as he turned slightly to the limo and waited for someone to come out. I saw a legs covered with knee high socks, then a head with long wavy chestnut colored hair and then the body of a girl no older than nine, she was much shorter than the boy and me, she was wearing a black dress with a red bow that tied in the back. The boy held the umbrella over her head then looked at me, by looking at me the girl looked at me. I didn't like the feeling of them staring at me so I walked briskly towards the Clare's store door and went inside. I wanted to get them out of my mind so I started to look around the store, at the feather pens and bags. I picked up a bag that tightened at the top, and had a flap cover the tightened hole and locked into place. It was black and silver striped and had a red flame shaped heart on it. I checked the price on it, it was fifteen dollars but it was marked for half off the original price, so the total would come out to seven dollars and fifty cents plus tax. I knew I had enough to buy it, so I waltzed up to the counter and purchased the bag while the over perky cashier asked in a falsely sweet tone, "Hi welcome to Clare's will this be all?" I just simply nodded as she punched in a code and scanned the price tag on the bag, then she said, "Ok your total is $8.22, will that be cash, credit or debit?" I didn't want to answer so I just reached into my pocket for my wad of cash and pulled out a ten then quickly gave it to her. She handed me my change and before she could say another word I grabbed the bag and ran out of the shop and down the street to Julian's for a dinner I could afford. When I ran into Julian's I was greeted by a waiter, tall, lean, with jet-black hair, an olive tan, onyx colored eyes, a uniform fit for a regular restaurant, shinny shoes and a shinny nametag that gleamed his name Dante. "Hi welcome to Julian's let me get you a table, Karin." I smiled at him and nodded. I had forgotten that earlier in the day he said he had to go in to work at Julian's so he could earn some extra cash. "Ok let's go, I have your regular table open, I thought you would come in today," said Dante as he grabbed a menu and led me to my table tucked away in the corner of the restaurant, It was a small booth, nestled in the corner away from the commotion, people smiled and said hello to me as we walked past everyone at the other tables. I was a regular for Julian's so almost everyone knew who I was; I was even the one who got Dante his job at Julian's. He let me get settled into my seat then gave me the menu and asked me, "Ok, Karin what would you like for today?" I thought for a moment not even opening the menu before me then replied, "I would like a coke, not diet, a double meat and cheese burger with bacon, French fries, and an Oreo ice cream shake with a lot of whip cream at the top." He pulled out a notepad from nowhere and quickly wrote down what I just said. He nodded then left me to go place my order; I breathed quietly then pulled my bag off of my shoulder and placed it next to me. I tucked away my new bag into my canvas bag so it wouldn't get taken or left behind, then I took it upon myself to look around at the other tables and people. The first table had a window behind it and it made a shiver run up my spine. Sitting at that table directly across from me were the boy and girl that I saw getting out of the limo. They were sitting side by side and looking in my general direction. The boy got up and started walking towards my table; I quickly looked at the wall of my corner praying for some miracle that he wouldn't come up to me. His footsteps got closer and louder, my heart started to race. Everything around me seemed to become slow motioned but the boy and I remained at the same rate. My heart jumped into my throat, I felt like I couldn't breath It was like my heart just decided to stop. I thought that soon he would be leaning down to speak with me for no reason at all. Then something came from out of the blue. I felt hands on my shoulders then a voice, "BOO!!" I jumped slightly and looked to see if it was the boy, only for me to see that it was only Nancy and Cami. Cami sniggered saying that she got lucky for scaring me, I looked passed her to see where the boy was. He was already sitting back at his table. I thought how could he get from to feet away from me all the way to the other side of the room and sitting at his table without me even noticing? I decided I wouldn't question it as I glanced at the two, the girl and boy were eyeing my friends and me, I became uneasy with their staring, and I could have sworn their eyes were glowing odd colors. "Um, hey there guys… why don't you sit with me?" I asked timidly. They had no answer and just sat across from me, and then Nancy started a conversation on "how I should be with a good respecting man getting laid instead of staying in a restaurant getting fat off the food I eat." I really didn't pay any attention to it knowing the entire speech already, I would have began to argue that I am still saving it for someone special but then the yelling and argument would continue on well into next week, that and I was still entranced in the two strait across the room from me. Nancy had mud colored eyes, dark brown, medium length hair, and olive colored skin, her brother is Dante but they are complete opposites. She was wearing her Papa Roach Shirt, checkerboard pants, Avenge Seven Fold Sweater, and black converse. Cami is Mexican but she speaks fluent English. She is as skinny and flat as a rail, she has long brown hair reaching to the middle of her back, white tree bark colored eyes, and slightly tanned skin. She is wearing her favorite purple fishnets, black wife-beater, trip pants with nine chains in total, a black trip jacket that looks like a strait jacket and DC shoes with bright purple laces. I tried to pay attention to Nancy and Cami but I couldn't help but think of the boy and girl at the table across from us, I would occasionally glance up at the two every time they met my gaze, it was no coincidence, they were watching us. Or were they watching me? The idea of that just creped me the hell out so I pushed such a stupid idea to the back of my mind trying to forget about it. Nancy kept talking about something until Dante walked up to the table with my meal. "Here you go hope you enjoy it." Said Dante as he handed my food to me on a tray. Nancy and Cami immediately took a few fries and kept talking. I said thank you to Dante as he walked away. I wanted to leave Julian's as soon as possible so instead of taking my time in eating I called for the check and started to eat as fast as I could, both Nancy and Cami stared at me in shocked faces. They never actually saw me eat as fast as I did but they didn't say anything. Dante brought the check as I finished my food and downed my drink and shake, slightly cringing at the sudden brain freeze I got. I saw the price and threw down about thirty dollars, then I grabbed my bag and said goodbye to my friends who had confused faces. I ran out of Julian's passing the window only to see that the boy and girl were no longer sitting there. The sight of not seeing them sitting there just made me freak out even more, so I forgot about getting an ice cream cone for dessert and ran all the way home to my apartment. The afternoon had turned to dusk and almost no one was on the sidewalk or passing by in cars on the street. I was scared out of my mind, I had no idea how fast I was running but every step seemed to be like a million miles in my mind. Before I knew it I was at the dull bricked building that housed my family and I. Running up the four flights of stairs took out more of my energy so when I was at the door to my apartment I took a quick breather then opened the door and slammed it shut. Everyone was home and arguing with each other. No one said 'Welcome home' so I just went strait to my room passing by my parents and older sister arguing about something stupid in the kitchen. I opened my door and closed it quickly, not even turning on the light; I dropped my bag next to the door and didn't even bother to take off my shoes. Murmurs of the arguing seeped through the walls so I went to my single bed and lied down, I looked at my nightstand and pulled open one of it's four drawers then I took out my ipod and placed my ear buds in my ears and played 'Lost My Music' to calm me down. Lying on my bed in the dark returned my breathing to normal and made me forget about the boy and girl and my family arguing. I had homework but I didn't need to do it until next Wednesday. I breathed lightly and felt at peace, I opened my eyes to see my Good Charlotte poster tacked to the ceiling and next to it was a blue rose I drew and colored when I was in sixth grade. I had forgotten about the boy and girl and felt like going out to get something to eat again, because of all of the running I did made me work off all of the fats and grease in my meal, I felt around my pants pocket passing over the shape of my slender cell phone, and found more money. I pulled out everything and looked at how much I had, from last weeks allowance and all the money I had earned and saved up I had about sixty dollars. I sat up in bed and took the ear buds out, my parents and sisters were still arguing about something and I knew if I went poking my head into the argument then I would get warped into it. I got up and left my room and passed by my family now arguing in the living room, I didn't want to interrupt them so I didn't tell them I was leaving, and if they wanted to tell me something they could just call me. I closed the door loud enough for them to know that I left, and walked down the stairs to leave the apartment building, I was two and a half floors under my home and I still could hear the argument, I didn't listen to it and just shoved a bud into my ear canceling out what was left of the heard yelling. When I got out of the dull red and gray bricked building I pulled my hoody up to cover my head and keep my ears warm. I walked two blocks to get to the 7' 11 store, once I got inside I went strait to the soda and energy drinks and grabbed a blue can called Rock Star, then a bag of sour gummy worms and a pack of gum, no one was inside except for the cashier. I tossed everything on the counter for the cashier to total up. The cashier was old with wrinkles of wisdom, a balding head, a small white smile, and the eyes of an Asian. He was wearing black slacks, a green shirt covered by an apron and a pair of business selling shoes. He took a few moments to total things up so I pulled out my money and gave him fifteen to cover the cost and picked up my things and went outside to sit on the curb. I sat there then pulled out my phone and looked at the time, it was only seven forty-two, wow time does fly when you're having fun, the strange thing is the sky and area around me looked like it was the stroke of midnight. I sighed after placing my phone into my pocket and opening up my drink. I took a few sips, not really paying attention to my surroundings. "Hey, Karin what are you doing here?" said a voice. I looked up to see Blaze standing on the sidewalk looking down at me, holding a bag with a gallon of milk. Blaze has pure black hair with red streaks through his bangs, dark blue eyes, a slender boy as well as milk colored skin, he is wearing tight chick pants, a tight black shirt, and a trench coat that went down to his knees, he has snake bites and wears black eye-liner and red eye shadow. "Hey… I just needed to get out of my house…" I said as he sat down next to me and took a gummy worm. He touched my arm and said in a kind tone, "You know you can always talk to me… and if you don't want to talk to me then you can always go to the fort for some 'you time'…" I remembered the fort that Blaze and I made when we were kids, it is old now and worn and it doesn't look like it would stay up for too long. Since most of it was made up of duck tape and cardboard boxes for walls and old pieces of wood that we found lying around in an old run down building that was closed off. I nodded at the remembrance of the fort I said to Blaze, "Thanks maybe I will go there…" A clap of thunder and a flash of lightening crossed the sky, we both looked up at it. "Well I better be going, my kid sister needs to have this milk before she goes to bed or she will throw a hell of a hissy fit." Said Blaze as he stood up and smiled at me before he left. I called after him, "Hey Blaze!" He turned and looked at me then I said, "Thank you…" He nodded and turned his back to me as he walked down the street going into town. I stood up and realized that Blaze helped me finish off my gummy worms, I closed my eyes and breathed calmly, I finished my energy drink and placed a stick of gum into my mouth and the gum pack into my pocket. Then I disposed of the energy drink and bag into a dumpster behind the store. It was kind of like an ally, as I tossed the garbage into the dumpster a group of about six teens, all boys, came from the shadows and stood in the light for me to see. I looked at all of them but only one I recognized, the boy from earlier today. My heart jumped into my throat at the sight of him, I swallowed my gum and stared at them all. He laughed and spoke to me, "Ha, ha, ha… you are a hard girl to track down and to be left alone… it seems whenever I am about to go to you someone appears and gets in the way…"
"Who are you?" I asked trying to hide my voice from fear. The boy laughed and called back to me, "You stupid naive girl, don't you know?…" He paused for a minute then said, "I'm a vampire." He extended his arms out as if he were to give a hug to an old friend, then he continued to speak, "These men here before you are vampires and that girl you saw with me today, is our leader, and she wants your blood."
"Why? Why would she want my blood? She could have picked any one else but why me!?" I yelled at him as fear gripped around my neck, suffocating me.
"It's because unlike some of the people that surround you, you have a virgin's blood. A girl untainted by man or woman, you are pure, and that's what my leader likes, virgin blood…" He took a step towards me. I didn't like what he was saying, or trying to do, so I turned and started to run out of town and towards the forest full of trees. "After her! Don't let her get away! Bring her back to me alive!" called the boy to the other young men. After hearing the command, the young men disappeared and the boy stood alone for a minute, then he spoke to himself, "Don't worry my lady, I swear I will bring her to you. Anna…" With that said he looked up and disappeared in search of me. It started to rain as I ran through the forest dogging trees and branches slightly tripping every now and then, I knew if I looked back I could come face to face with one of his goons that he had with him. I kept running until I stopped and hid behind a tree, I fell to the ground in a sitting position. I tried to breath regularly but it came out heavy, I heard a twig snap and looked up to see a large man show his teeth, baring his fangs. I knew from that he was a vampire, he extended his hand as if to hit me, his hand started to extend sharper nails, much like claws, his hand came down swiftly, I jumped out of the way and landed on my ass as his nails dug into the tree bark, leaving five slashes on the poor tree. Rain started to pour down as I saw the marks; he turned to me readying to try to claw me. I knew the next move I made would be playing dirty, but I kicked him in the weakest point of a man's body. Right between his legs. He stopped then fell to the ground cringing in pain, I was getting soaked to the bone, then I felt a large stone, I looked and saw next to the stone was a large branch, I knew what I could do but I knew it would be murder if I hit him hard enough, but then again he was a vampire, so wouldn't he come back to life? I saw him get on all fours, trying to get up and capture me. I knew what I had to do; I grabbed the large object and stood up. I lifted the branch over my head and yelled with might, "GO A-WAY!" He looked up at me as I brought the branch down over his head. I closed my eyes as I heard a hard smack echo out into the woods. He fell to all fours and didn't move. I dropped my only weapon and looked at that life-less body, fear gripped at me more as I turned and ran. Running in the rain caused me to slip and trip more; I had to find a place to defend myself. I turned left then right, I took another right then hung a left and ran up to an opening of a cave, I felt like it was sheer luck for me so I ducked inside the dry cave and tried to warm my cold body, rubbing my frost bitten hands over my arms. I knew I was still on the run and if they found me in here that I would be done for. I tried to remember everything that I knew about vampires, they hated holy water, couldn't stand crosses, can't be out during the day, and that they despised garlic, I knew I wouldn't find anything like that out in the woods. I thought for a minute and knew that I had to find a weapon to use incase anyone of those goons tried to get me again. I started to walk to the back of the cave hoping to find something. My eyes were slowly adjusting to the dark, but I ended hitting my knee on something. "Ouch!" I said, and the cave repeated over several times. I looked down and felt something smooth, I took out my phone and used it for some light; I opened it up and shinned it down on the object that I hit. It was a very large stone chest; I thought to my self that maybe, just maybe there was a weapon for me in there. I closed my phone and started to push off the heavy top, it landed with a loud thump that echoed out to the woods. I reopened my phone for light and saw a few things, a book, a bunny doll, a folded dress but nothing I could use. I felt really depressed and knew that soon they would find me. I felt hope-less and tired, I could tell that I would have my last few moments as a normal human girl in that cave. I sighed and told my self not to cry, I calmed myself down so I did not cry. I looked at my phone, if I called someone they would think I was just joking. Then I looked at the book, then at the stuffed bunny doll and the dress next to it. I pulled up the dress and looked at it. The dress was meant for a five-year-old girl, it was pure white and had spaghetti straps, but something was different about the dress, it had a long bloodstain running down the front of it. I touched the stain to see if it was really there or just my eyes playing a trick on me. It was real, I tossed the dress back into the stone box not even bothering to fix it, then I pulled out the book, it was old fashioned, and it was an old copy of a story similar to Romeo and Juliet, the binding for the book was worn and it didn't look like it would last forever. I then picked up the doll, it was a rabbit, an unusual one at that, it had an eye patch over it's left eye, a red heart stitched to it's chest, it looked as though it was torn by a kid who threw a temper tantrum then the kid's mother had pieced it back together like an unfinished forgotten puzzle, and very old bandages covered it's left leg, it was kind of cute. I held it close to my heart and prayed to God that he would send me a miracle. I was about to place the book and doll back into the stone chest when I saw a small gleam of a handle to a sheathed dagger. I placed the book on the dirt floor and picked up the dagger, it's handle was made out of a metal and colored purely in silver, it had a red trapezoid shaped gem in the center of the handle, I pulled it out of it's sheath and saw it's blade. It was very sharp and reflected part of my face, I let the doll fall to my lap as I touched the blade and accidentally cut myself. I smiled, if I was careful enough then I could protect myself. I gripped the dagger and quickly placed back the book, I didn't need its sheath. I then heard a voice, "You know girl's aren't suppose to play with knives that are sharp enough to cut themselves with." 'Crap' I thought. I wasn't aware that they got in with out me noticing, let alone not even making a sound. I stood up quickly, all of the goons including the one I knocked out were in the cave and the boy was walking towards me. I was going to take a step back but if I did then I would run into the stone box. I wasn't thinking when I ran toward the boy intent on harming him to some extent, but he countered my pathetic attack and grabbed my wrist and squeezed it hard enough until I dropped the dagger. The dagger landed on the dirt floor with a thump that echoed through out the cave. I cringed at the pressure the boy had on my wrist, he spoke to me in a calm voice and as though I was younger than he was, "You do not do that ever again… Understand…" I yelped slightly. He took his other hand and struck me across my face as he let go of my wrist. The shock of the hit caused me to fall sideways and hit my head hard on the floor. I moaned softly as I felt him step up to me and kick me in the stomach. He wanted to make sure that I was knocked out good. He said that I was weak and pathetic and that no man should ever fall in love with me. I was slowly slipping into and out of my unconscious state. The boy was going to pick me up, but a voice from within the cave yelled at him, "Don't you even dare try to touch her!" I was so exhausted that I couldn't tell if the voice was a boy's or a girl's. "Who is there? I command you to show yourself!" called out the boy. I saw anger come to the boys face. Then a very bright orb of light came from nowhere, it was near the stone chest. The light got brighter and brighter until it was as bright as the sun. All of the boys in the cave used their hands to cover their eyes from the light, one of them ended up bursting into ash. "We have to leave hurry!" cried the boy. He didn't even try to pick me up. All of the vampires left the cave in a hurry, the bright light continued to glow until it got close to me. The light stopped and I felt hands turn me over, I closed my eyes then slightly opened them I saw a saddened face of a boy illuminated by light he had gentle eyes but along with his face was a pair of fangs, those of a vampire, he said something but I did not hear it. I fell unconscious but I felt lips kiss my neck then fangs pierce through my flesh as blood pooled into his mouth, he sucked and drank my blood slowly, and I fell into a deeper state of an unconscious sleep. I remember when I first started my journey, January 18, 2011, the moment my life changed forever.
